The biggest question in mobile technologies seems to be whether or not there really is a place for tablets, in between the foreign land of smart phones and laptops. Technology in general has taken a gigantic leap forward with the release of smaller and faster processing chips and graphics cards. These new technologies even run at a cooler pace than their previous counterparts making them perfect to integrate into a smaller and more portable system. But the question still lies in the idea that wonders… do people really need an in-between, bridging the gap of phones and laptops. Samsung’s Galaxy Note is extremely promising and could be exactly what we are looking for. With the right characteristics a tablet could effectively replace the need for laptops as most business and even some personal users have specific needs for a laptop that do not fall far from the current capabilities of tablets.

The 5.3 inch Galaxy Note is a beautiful piece of work that exemplifies style and productivity. Basically, on first glance this thing looks like it was designed for both work and pleasure without compromising on any front. Here’s the catch, with a screen this small (in tablet terms), or large compared to typical smart phones, where does the Note fit in, if anywhere. Well it does run on Android which seems to be a rapidly increasing software that directly competes with iOS having some advantages over Apple’s popular software. To some extent, variety is the name of the game and having a choice of two main operating systems really gives the customer a clear view of what is being offered and helps induce innovation through this healthy competition.

Similar to the recently reviewed Galaxy S II, the Note runs on an almost identical platform, one that is tried and true. Samsung has had lots of positive feedback on their Galaxy line of gadgets and doesn’t compromise looks for performance, or vice versa. This is apparent throughout any of Samsung’s creations, they look beautiful and they perform flawlessly. The Note has the typical high-res screen, intuitive touch screen display, and typical controls of a smart phone. Here’s the difference, the Note comes with a little stylus that should aid the user in pinpoint precise actions and might make for a more organized use of the device. It carries a low-profile design that is sleek and professional but also seems to fit in quite nicely in a pair of jeans. The only possible problem that we could foresee is in the occasion of someone wanting to throw the smart phone into a backpack. With such a large screen and such a small size, the device is susceptible to scratches and breaks, something no owner wants to deal with. Depending on where you shop and the daily deals, the Galaxy Note will get you for around $500, something understandable if it can fill in the gaps in your technology needs.
