Similar to the reasons for purchasing a Ferrari over a Toyota, Canon has released their newest and greatest camera for pre-order that has a very niche market to say the least. Some people would scoff at spending a thousand or two on a nice high end DSLR camera for shooting photos of landscapes; but this new EOS C300 camera puts those ones to shame. Originally thought to be priced around $20,000 the pre-order price of the C300 is only $15,999. That’s right, they dropped the price of the camera by four thousand dollars and you could still pick up a new car or boat for the price tag of this camera. Furthermore, this price only includes the body of the camera and you would have to pay much more to get a lens along with it. Canon decided to debut their top of the line lens at the same time, which comes in at just over $40,000. This might just be one of those cases where an item is created for marketing purposes rather than to sell to the mass market because you can bet that this camera won’t be a top seller.

The new lenses that were announced featured some amazing new technology for the clearest, brightest, and highest resolution photos capable. Specifically these are CN-E 14.5-60mm T2.6 L S and CN-E 30-300mm T2.95-3.7 L S zoom lenses; for the not so photo savvy readers out there, these are some stunning lenses that offer just about the best pictures around but feature some very large price spikes. Oddly enough even with a final price that could reach upwards of $60,000 for the camera system Cannon has only went with a 1080p resolution. What does this mean? Well, in relative terms the resolution of a camera or photos just refers to the size of the image and how many pixels are stored upon each image. Often camera and photo companies will embellish the need of a high resolution and will tack on the idea of clarity with the resolution even though they are mutually exclusive. In this case Canon has realized that there is no need to bump up a resolution when you can just increase the beautifulness of the current camera and make it look absolutely life-like. Surprisingly in aesthetic features the C300 is really lacking; it follows the typical black on black pattern with tons of buttons. The claim to fame that a $16,000 camera has to offer is usually reliability and photo quality based, both of which we assume with be top notch and will not let us down. This camera is set to have photographers spending their life’s savings and novice photographers will be begging to get their hands on one. Canon has struck something once again and will most likely rule the highest end of the photo market from now on.
