You know the feeling you get when a Ferrari zooms down the street right next to you, engines roaring, and you start thinking up ways you could get the money to afford one of those… well this upcoming review should give you the same feeling. Nikon has decided to upgrade and release an all-new revision of its top of the line DSLR camera series. Taking the place of the D3, the similarly named D4 will be their new high-end design. Now, normally when we call something expensive we mean it might be overpriced by $20 or so, maybe the item is pricier than its competitors, but in this case luxury has been brought to an entirely new level. The Nikon D4 is affordably priced at a nice $6,000, but does it have nearly enough upgrades to even think about purchasing this mammoth of a camera, let’s find out!
Starting off with aesthetics unfortunately not much has changed and the typical hard leather and plain rugged black look has been kept. To be honest I am not entirely sure why this design has been taken and not modified in the slightest for a $6,000 camera, but what comes to mind is that the people purchasing this level of hardware are much more interested in the technology than the looks and showing off their purchase. This is plausible, and makes some sense but at the same time when people are going to pay a 500% increase in price over the normal professional cameras, I would expect at least some effort put into the visual design.
Now onto the good stuff, the main upgrade that has been made on the D4 over the previous D3 is a newly designed shutter release button. Essentially this button is now slanted at a 35 degree angle and it is Nikon’s attempt at creating an on the go solution for shutter speed. When you need to flip on your camera and take a once in a lifetime picture you won’t want to go through the settings to make sure you can capture it with the best light, so these new shutter speed buttons should offer a fast and efficient way to do so. Now the other features of the camera are exactly what you would expect from Nikon, a bombproof design, as well as a remarkably clear and beautifully correct camera. Pictures are absolutely breathtaking when they come from this camera; the clarity is unmatched at any resolution. It is important to note that you are paying a huge premium when purchasing anything on the severe high-end of electronics and the D4 is no exception. Despite the fact that you are paying an exurbanite price, the D4 delivers in every way possible making it possibly the greatest DSLR on the market that will satisfy each one of your photographic desires.
