This week I had the pleasure of reviewing HTC’s newest addition to the smart phone market. The HTC Radar 4G presents itself to be an awesome new phone; with its cutting edge features and stylish looks it seems to be a huge contender for one of the best new smart phones. HTC’s phones run on the Windows mobile operating system and the Radar is especially important because it is currently the only Windows phone which can operate on T-Mobile; it is also running the fairly new HSPA+ frequency. There are many features that set the Radar apart from its competitors but even at first glance the phone shows off it’s eye-pleasing design in a shimmering gloss white color.

The phone comes stock with a 3.8 inch slate as well as a 5 megapixel camera, and a Super LCD screen, all built into a strong aluminum body. Let’s see if the phone has what it takes to standout among it’s Android based competition. Surprisingly, as I mentioned before, HTC went with a white color that is extremely rare in cell-phones these days, with the only other major producer of white phones being the iPhone. Frankly, the redesigned aesthetic of the phone along with the white color scheme really brings out a cool tech feel to the phone and compared to the normal black or grey plastic phones we see on the market everyday… the Radar 4G does not disappoint.

Another interesting feature of the phone is a built in 3.5mm headphone jack. It wasn’t until very recently that a industry standard headphone port became normal to see in mobile phones; this is a great feature intended to please the music enthusiasts. Ergonomically speaking, the phone feels great in the hand and is not uncomfortable to carry around in a pants pocket. Often, buyers looking for a new phone overlook this ergonomic factor and as we have seen in some of HTC’s past phones, some of which turned out to be very bulky; it is important to note that not all phones are created alike when it comes to ergonomics. Another lesser-known factor is battery life and performance over a period of time. If you are looking at purchasing a phone after one stop at your local shop, it might be a good idea to test your potential phone out at much as possible, even making a test phone call or playing a sample song can give you great insight into the quality of the parts in the phone. I decided to test out the Radar 4G for a week, and I have to say this phone may not be the most glamorous, but it performs like a true high-end smart phone should… fast, effective, and enjoyable. I was able to run multiple applications at the same time, surf the Internet, and just generally use the phone until it gave out. Fortunately the phone handled my use very well, never slowing down or malfunctioning for even a second, and I could generally get a day and a half of moderate use off of a full charge. I am very happy to say that the HTC Radar 4G is an extremely solid phone, with great features, and a beautiful design to top it off!
