One of the largest growing markets in technology right now happens to be smart phones. While consumers are having a hard time paying off their mortgages, cars, and other big-time expenses, studies show that people resort to small-time purchases and all-around more effective uses of their money. This year the smart phone market has grown tremendously, which is why we are taking a look at the Samsung Doubletime today. An odd prospect, the Doubletime seems to be going in the wrong direction or should we say opposite of normal smart phones, read on to find out.

In a similar manner to how men can compare the size of their engines as a factor in each other’s ‘manliness,’ smart phones are being judged now by their components. Just a year ago the iPhone and other Andriod phones were considered top of the line and phenomenal, yet if those phones were released today everyone would criticize them into the ground. This is just to say that we have come a long way from our predecessors and it doesn’t look like the cell-phone companies are ready to give up the fight just yet.

The large white casing that makes up the Doubletime seems pretty sturdy, something I like to take into account with my rigorous lifestyle, and it has good looks. While it may not be an iPhone, Samsung does create a cool ergonomic design to most of their phones, and the Doubletime does not disappoint. Running Android 2.2 with its 800 mhz processor the cell could be considered a little behind the times, but that’s not all. The main problem we initially had with the phone, as ironic as it may seem, is the extremely low quality of the built in camera. Let’s face it, phones all do their job these days of letting two people talk to each other, but in today’s world the main factors that are evaluated when buying a smart phone almost never include the actual phone mechanism. So this is why we decided to test all of the other amenities that the phone has to offer, and starting with the camera we were not very pleased. Moving onto the screen, the 3.2 inch 480 x 320 resolution screen just seems very compromising for what it deemed a smartphone. With that small of a resolution you can say goodbye to reading long emails or even non-mobile formatted websites could give you trouble. There is a good reason for this, the phone features a full qwerty keyboard when you flip it open, as well as another screen. This is a design that was fairly popular in the early 2000’s, and it comes down to personal opinion whether or not you are willing to compromise screen space and quality for multiple viewing areas and a full keyboard. I would classify this phone on more of a texting and rugged phone for the teenager on the go, rather than a smart phone targeted at business professionals.
