Apple and all of it’s fans have a new competitor on the block that is looking to knock the Macbook Air out of it’s reign for the lightweight laptop design. When it comes to portability, customer service, and sleek looking products you usually do not have to look further than Apple for all of your electronic needs, but today it seems that Toshiba has made a strong move towards their own so-called ‘ultrabook.’ This specific model is named the Portege Z835 and comes with some stylish gray accents along with a beautiful island based keyboard. Toshiba have clearly put lots of the effort into creating an ergonomically pleasing and beautiful laptop that will please even the more aesthetically desiring folks.

The main problem, which usually plagues the Apple competitors, and the fact that recent attempts have been less than surprising to say the least, is usually the price to value point. While Apple can consistently release a Macbook pro, or Air, at a solid price where people know that are paying slightly more for the name is a working concept; people understand that they are making a small compromise on the price rather than having a feature that may be important to them left out. For example some of the other lightweight ultrabooks that did not stand-out very much are the Asus Zenbook or the Lenovo Ideapads… due to their small yet unnervingly important problems. You just cannot afford to make a mistake in today’s laptop market as every single buyer is becoming more informed, be it from internet reviews, or just by reading over the tech specs at a manufacturers website.

That being said, it looks like we may have come across of a winner with the Portege, coming in at a $900 price point this may scare away some of the budget users but compared to the $1000+ laptops that we see at Apple this could be a great way to save some dough for the holidays. The main characteristics that set the Portege apart from its lacking competitors are some niche features that will surely make your time on the laptop more pleasurable. Coming with a fully backlit keyboard, full Ethernet, VGA and HDMI ports this light laptop has tons to offer! The Portege is also extremely light coming it at right under two and half pounds, and compared to my huge Asus G51 that weighs almost seven full pounds, I cannot tell you how much I would love to carry that feater-like ultrabook. Unfortunately with a laptop at this price-point I was grimly awaiting the info on where Toshiba cut corners… they just had to if they were going to release this epic of a laptop or it would have dominated the market for years to come. The screen is a measly 13.3 inch size, which would not have been bad if the 1366×768 resolution did not look washed out and frankly, very lacking from it comes to picture quality. If you can get over that one issue, then the Toshiba Portege Z836 Ultrabook is not only beautiful to look at but a great buy!
