What comes to your mind first when thinking of portable audio? For the longest time the main leaders were the Sony Walkman, or non-branded CD players, or even the Zune. Who would have ever thought that Apple and their iPods could revolutionize this world of audio in such a way? Over the course of the last few years we have clearly seen a huge change in the quality and service that is expected from companies, all thanks to Apple. Not only have they produced some amazing products that are light-years ahead of their competitors, they also attempt to create ergonomic and user friendly technology that can be used by everyone between a child and a grandparent, I know for a fact that my grandparents are in love with their iMacs and iPhones. There has never been a better time to check out some of the unbelievable innovation over at Apple.
The iPod Touch is now the next step in portable audio and it has taken one more step towards becoming a multi-faceted device with the addition of a high quality camera into the newest fourth generation of devices. Now you are able to record full HD movies and take amazing photos on your iPod Touch. Many people have asked for this feature and it seems that Apple really wanted to wait until they had a solid handle on the feature, before adding it into the mix. This camera allows you to not only take pictures of things in front of your iPod but now you can also facetime with friends and family. This is one of my favorite apps on the iDevices because of its intuitive nature and ability to do things we never thought possible until just a couple years ago. For me, having the option to video call my friend in Spain just by tapping my iPod a few times seems almost unreal. Think about it… you have the ability to have a video conference with almost anyone in the world who owns an iPod just by using the built-in wifi in your home. This type of innovation is absolutely outstanding and I hope it demonstrates what type of future products we can hope to see from Apple.
Another one of the awesome additions to the iPod Touch in the most recent fourth generation is an app called iMessage. Basically this new app that was created by Apple gives everyone the ability to send text messages right from your iPod. This app uses the typical Wifi internet signal that you use to browse facebook or just use Safari on, and then it lets you text your buddy on his cell phone. This will most likely lead to younger children being able to text and therefore a decrease in the need for cell phones for pre-teen kids who’s parents usually want a personal way to communicate with their kids while they are not at the house, all for the low price of $199. This type of technology innovation put forth by the hands of Apple is extremely exciting and we can only wonder how they will top this with the release of next years model.
