Google Nexus S: A Smartphone With A Future

Very few smartphone developers have delved as deep into the Android operating system as Google. While many other companies are attempting to imitate and perfect the top selling phones, Google is developing their own unique niche of smartphones without much similarity to the competition. This risky maneuver could have meant disaster for the Nexus S, but instead this phone shows as much promise as any other smartphone on the market.

The specs of the Nexus S are eerily comparable to the HTC and Apple line of smartphones. This sleek phone contains a 1GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, a front facing VGA camera, a 5 megapixel rear facing camera, and a 4 inch display with a 800 x 480 resolution. They are being sold with the most recent evolution of the Droid system named the Gingerbread.

The quality and construction of the phone is superb, but anyone with butterfingers should be finding a cover on day one as the curved back gives the Nexus S an odd feel. Compared to other smartphones who tend to skimp on speaker and call quality, the Nexus S has the clearest sound on the market. The absolute best feature of this phone is the streamlined compatibility with Gmail and the Google search engine which will leave current users of Gmail or Chrome with a smile on their face.

Google’s bet seems to have paid off with the Nexus S. In a market flooded by cookie cutter phones with identical appearances, quality, and apps, the Nexus S is a welcome change for the tech-savvy. The Nexus series is a great alternative to the top-selling brands, especially for consumers who have been backed into a calling plan and are looking for a great phone
