Dell Streak 7

The Dell Streak 7 is a new 7” tablet PC on the market. This 7” tablet PC offers great portability and one handed operation. It is on the Android operating system and uses the Dell Stage user interface. It plans on switching to Honeycomb in later versions. The powerful Tegra dual core processor runs at 1 GHz and the Streak also offer 16GB of memory. The shotty pixel resolution comes in at 800X480 and features gorilla glass compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab at 1024X600. The streak 7 also has a short battery life of 3.5 hours.

The 7” tablet features no HDMI support for send video or audio out. It also doesn’t charge via USB, you have to use a wall adapter AC charger. It’s meant to be operated in the landscape position although you can shift it to portrait mode for the Swype texting. It can be used on a variety of networks including T-mobile and Verizon. Snapping scrolling and pinch to zoom are some of the units strong points. If the unit just had a better LCD panel it would far much better. The viewing angles are terrible and of course the colors don’t come close to the Glaxay Tab.

Preloaded applications include BrainPOP (a educational game for kids), Zinio (a magazine app), Kindle, Let’s Golf, Blockbuster and Slacker Radio. Many other applications are available at Android Market. The backside camera is 5MP and is fairly descent while the front facing camera is a 1.3MP which left more to be desired.

Overall, the picture quality and battery life fall short of what’s expected in a tablet. Even with a price point lower than the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Streak 7 might find a low demanding crowd for the product.

Dell fell short on this one. How is anyone to develop applications for this product/upgrade without having to wait for dell to release the OS update if it has no usb support that will put a big red flag for me. Also I believe dell would be better off sticking to desktops and notebooks I didn't even like their plasma television's. I think they would have used at least an AMOLED screen for a little insurance to sell the product The only thing I see that this has going for it is the Android OS Its like they were coming to the 2000's only to be wearing 1980's clothing Although this could be an enormous down fall or a great lesson as how to begin their triumph in the mobile market I will not be purchasing a DELL Streak 7 anytime soon Thanks William
