Recently, K-Mart introduced their new and exclusive Augen Gentouch78 tablet, commonly selling out of the product within hours of stocking it, with customers eating up the one hundred and fifty dollar intuitive Android 2.1 operating system enabled tablet. The tablet is made of sleek, strong and light molded plastic with a clear plastic screen and comes packaged in a fancy faux-leather case. The screen, thanks to a minute gap between the display and the top plastic layer, can be a bit resistant to touch commands at times, but any veteran user of smart phones or other touch screen devices can relate that this issue is almost unavoidable and is easily fixed by using the stylus, located in its own convenient slot on the top side of the tablet. The screen does feature a crisp 800 X 480 resolution and a seven inch display, which are both right around where they should be for the extremely low price which it is retailing for.

The seven inch size also happens to be an ideal size for reading internet articles or e-books, and combined with the Augen Gentouch 78’s light weight, this tablet proves to be one of the more enjoyable platforms to read electronically. On the hardware side of things, the Augen Gentouch 78 features a micro-USB port, a 2.5mm headphone jack (which is a bit of a letdown, but the manufacturer will provide a free adapter) and a microSD card slot around its edge. Storage wise, the tablet comes with two gigabytes of onboard memory with the microSD slot allowing for the addition of up to sixteen gigabytes of storage.

The Augen Gentech 78 ships pre-loaded with the Android 2.1 operating system but allows users to upgrade to the 2.2 operating system and from the first boot up offers applications for GMail and YouTube. In addition to these features, the tablet comes pre-loaded with the entire Google marketplace, allowing the user to buy and download any of the thousands of applications already available for Android users. On the whole, the Augen Gentouch 78 is a functional, cheap option for those looking to get a working tablet with decent specs and storage without breaking the bank.
